The NHS must learn from this tragic incident and stop outsourcing mental health care to companies such as Priory which put the lives of the public at risk. The national inquiry announced by health secretary Steve Barclay should include a review of the policy of forcing the NHS to outsource its health care. A national inquiry must also investigate the financial incentives that lead the NHS to contract with private companies such as the Priory Group, which is profiting from the deaths of vulnerable patients.
